PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer having excellent slipperiness, abrasion resistance, etc., and suitable for magnetic recording medium, capacitor, etc., by adding specific spherical fine particles of silica produced by the hydrolysis and condensation reaction of an alkoxysilane. CONSTITUTION:Tetramethoxysilane is dissolved in methanol and the solution is added to a solution of ammonia water and methanol under agitation. The obtained mixture is left standing, centrifuged and washed to obtain amorphous spherical fine particles of silica having an average particle diameter of 0.01-3.0mum, a value of formula I or 1.1-2.7 and a value of formula II (D is maximum diameter of the particle; V is volume of the particle) of 0.4-pi/6. The particles are dispersed in ethylene glycol to obtain a slurry having a concentration of 0.5-40wt.%. The objective polymer can be produced by adding (A) the above slurry to a polycondensation reaction system of (B) terephthalic acid and (C) ethylene glycol before the completion of the initial polycondensation reaction.
