The tubular ball mill comprises a rotating lined drum with closed ends with charge and discharge openings. The drum encloses an even number of perforated partitions at an angle (ALPHA) to the drum axis. Each partition forms an ellipse offset from the other partition to form the grind chambers packed with the abrasive bodies. The drum end plates (2,3) are at an angle to the drum axis (1) at the same angle as the partitions (8,9). - Each end plate and one partition should slope, in pairs in opposite directions and the end plates and partitions are offset along identical axes relative one another through 360 deg:n, where 'n' is the total number of end plates and partitions. When the drum turns 90 deg. the end plate (2) moves the mass (charge and feed) as arrowed (19) whilst the partition (8) moves the mass in the opposite direction (20), thus cancelling out the forces, in chamber (10). Partition (9) moves the mass in opposite directions (22,23) in chambers (11,12), cancelling out the forces on partition. The mass in chamber (12) moves in direction (24) with the associated force being cancelled due to the opposite direction (21) of mass flow in chamber (11).
