<p>A diammonium compound softener, such as N-dimethyl-N-tallowalkyl-N-trimethyl-propylene-diammonium dichloride and a clay mineral fabric softener are homogeneously and finely mixed with a spray-dried no phosphate detergent bead or granule composition. The spray-dried bead is blended with the diammonium compound softener and the clay mineral fabric softener. The final composition exhibits improved softening properties even at low levels (e.g. less than 2.5%) of the diammonium compound without adversely effecting cleaning or whitening effect in a typical no phosphate detergent formulation, the spray-dried beads include linear alkyl benzene sulphonate or other anionic surfactant, an inorganic and/or organic detergent builder salt, and other heat stable and pH insensitive detergent additives and fillers. In addition to the diammonium compound softener agent and a smectite clay fabric softener, other post-added ingredients typically include a nonionic surfactant, enzyme, perfume, bleach, and other detergent additives which may be pH sensitive, heat sensitive, water-insoluble, or reactive with one or more of the components of the spray-dried beads.</p> |
