Disclosed is a soil fungicide containing as the active ingredient a nitro alcohol derivative represented by the general formula: wherein R1 represents X represents hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group having 1 - 4 carbon atoms or a halogen atom; and R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group having 1 - 4 carbon atoms.
