PURPOSE:To reliably perform the restart after the quenching by detecting the change from the lights-on state to the lights-out state of a discharge lamp, with the power supply voltage kept turned on, and resetting a restarting timer with this detection output. CONSTITUTION:A timer TM3 measuring the time sufficient for the restart of a discharge lamp DL and enabling an igniter IGN only in the measured time and a quenching detecting circuit DT detecting the change from the lights-on state to the lights-out state of the discharge lamp DL, with at least the power supply voltage kept turned on, are provided. The detection output of the quenching detecting circuit DT is connected to the reset input of the timer TM3. The reliable restart of the discharge lamp can be thereby performed when the discharge lamp is quenched although the power supply voltage is kept turned on. |
