PURPOSE:To obtain a carbon-containing refractory of extremely excellent oxidation resistance by adding a specific amount of silicon triboride to a refractory containing refractory aggregate and a carbon material at a specific weight ratio. CONSTITUTION:The subject carbon-containing refractory is obtained by adding 1-8wt.% of silicon triboride, based on the total amount of the refractories, to the refractory which is composed of 5-30wt.% of a carbon material, preferably graphite flakes, and 70-95wt.% of a refractory aggregate mainly consisting of magnesia and alumina. The silicon triboride preferably is a powder which has particle sizes from 2-50mum, especially less 44mum, from the view points of reactivity, homogeneity, dispersibility. The refractory according to the present invention contains silicon triboride mixed in the carbon material and melts at a low temperature to form coating films of high viscosity with extremely reduced oxidation of the carbon-containing starting material. |
