The invention relates to the reduction of a load reversal shock on a vehicle driven by an engine, with a drive train arranged between the engine and the rest of the vehicle, the power output of the engine being determined by a control signal, which is derived from a drive signal, a temporary variation of the drive signal initially triggering a transient stronger variation of the control signal than actually corresponds to a modified but constant drive signal (overmodulation of the control signal). By means of such overmodulation of the control signal, the first load reversal shock can, at best, be avoided but not the succeeding load reversal oscillations. In order to reduce the succeeding load reversal oscillations, it is proposed according to the invention to follow the first overmodulation of the control signal with a transient variation of the control signal in the opposite direction, which is greater than actually corresponds to the modified but constant drive signal (undermodulation of the control signal). For generating a suitable control signal from the drive signal, suitable electronic circuits are proposed.
