PURPOSE:To enable smooth take-up of an ink tape even when the friction between the ink tape and a printing head and between the ink tape and a recording paper becomes heavier, by controlling the rotation of a driving motor for an ink tape take-up shaft according to the detection result of a movement of a main body of a printer. CONSTITUTION:With a main body 1 of a printer moved forward, a moving quantity detection signal is outputted from a main encoder unit 24, and a take-up shaft-driving motor 41 is driven by a motor driving-controlling part. As a result, an ink tape take-up shaft 40 is rotated to rotate an ink tape take-up spool 73 is rotated, and an ink tape 81 paid out from a payout spool 74 is passed through the position of a thermal printing head 32 to be taken up by the spool 73. At this moment, the rotation of the motor 41 is detected by a motor encoder unit 47, and on the basis of the detected rotation, the motor driving-controlling part controls the motor 41 so that the take-up speed of the ink tape 81 conforms to the moving quantity of the main body 1. With this construction, smooth take-up of the ink tape can be performed even when, for example, the friction between the ink tape and a printing head and between the ink tape and a recording paper becomes heavier.
