PURPOSE:To carry out automatically and remotely the cleaning of the narrow outer surfaces of boiler heat transfer tubes by installing the main body of a cleaning device which is movable in the axial direction and vertical direction of heat transfer tubes of a horizontal type boiler. CONSTITUTION:In the condition that a cleaning device 2 is supported on a heat transfer tube 1 by only claws 22, a ball screw 19 for ascending and descend ing is rotated by driving a motor 20 for ascending and descending. By this rotation, driving parts 4 placed at the front and rear part of a main body 3 and connected to each other is guided along the screw 19 of a slider 21 to move up and down the device. The movement of the cleaning device in the tube axial direction is carried out by the rotation of a travelling roller 13 driven by a motor 14 for the travelling roller. When the cleaning device arrives at a location near the place to be cleaned in horizontal movement, the rotation of the roller 13 is first stopped. After that, shot grains and high pressure air are supplied to a nozzle 5 from a shot blasting device arranged outside the tube 1 and they polish the outer surface of the tube 1.
