PURPOSE:To prevent loosened mounting, dislodging, etc., of a seed crystal during the growth of a single crystal by covering the upper part of the seed crystal with inert metal foil and adhering and fixing the inert metal foil and the seed crystal by a sintered body made of the same material as the seed crystal, then fixing the same to a seed post. CONSTITUTION:The upper part of the seed crystal 1 (e.g.; lithium niobate crystal) for growing the single crystal is covered with the inert metal foil 2 (e.g.; platinum foil), then the foil 2 and the crystal 1 are adhered and fixed by the sintered body 5 (e.g.; sintered body of the lithium niobate) consisting of the same material as the seed crystal 1. The crystal 1 is then fixed in this state too the seed port 4 by using platinum wires 3, 3, etc. Since the foil 2 and the crystal 1 are adhered and fixed by the sintered body 5 of the same material as the crystal 1 in such a manner, the single crystal having the excellent crystal grade is produced without allowing the mounting state of the crystal 1 to loosen and without fluctuating the crystal axis orientation of the seed crystal even in the high-temp. atmosphere during the growth of the single crystal.
