PURPOSE:To automate the inspection process by providing upper and lower detecting heads for detecting an image on a face side on which parts for a printed circuit board are mounted and an image on the back side of the board and/or light transmitted through a through-hole from the face side to the back side. CONSTITUTION:A printed circuit board 3 is located on a horizontal X-Y table 1 while facing its central window 2. An image on the back side of the board 3 and/or light transmitted through a through-hole 4 from the face side to the back side of the board 3 is observed by a lower inspecting head 10 and whether the terminal 6 of a part 5 is inserted into the target through-hole 4 is confirmed. Thereafter, the polarity, the name and the like of the part 5 inserted in the board 3 are inspected on the basis of an image on the face side of the board 3 observed by an upper inspecting head 8. Thus, a scatter in the defective/ nondefective judgment of a mounting condition due to the inclination of the part 5 relative to the board 3 is removed and the inspecting accuracy is improved. This process removes the necessity of a judgment by an operator in the course of an inspecting operation or the like and enables the inspection process to be automated.
