PURPOSE:To promote the efficiency of cutting work, by providing a workpiece discriminating device, which discriminates a kind of a workpiece, in either one of the chuck heads so that the necessity for moving the workpiece after the restoration of power interruption is eliminated even if information of the kinds of the workpiece is lost by the power interruption. CONSTITUTION:Right and left chuck heads are provided being arranged on the bed of a cutting machine main unit. And the left chuck head 5 provides a workpiece discriminating device which discriminates a kind of a workpiece. Of the above described, a sensor rod 303 is exposed penetrating through a chuck main unit 7a, and a sensor 305 is provided in a cylinder main unit 304. Further the cutting machine main unit fixedly provides limit switches 311-313 in a supporting plate 308, mounting blocks 320, 321 to a guide plate 306 and blocks 322, 323 to an arm plate 309. And a count value, output from the sensor 305 by moving a center rod 301, is stored in a memory. In this way, the efficiency of work can be promoted.
