The invention is based on the object of reducing the mechanical and electrical complexity for transmitting the operating power and the signals between an electronic reading and writing device and a contactless chip card. The solution consists in that the electronic reading and writing device (14) and the chip card (10) only exhibit two magnetic circuits (12, 15; 13, 16). The operating power and control signals for the electronic memory (11) accommodated in the chip card are transmitted via the first magnetic circuit (12, 15). The second magnetic circuit (13, 16) is used for the two-way alternate transmission of the data. A preferred application for the chip card system according to the invention are telephone activation devices.
