PURPOSE:To reduce the thickness of a developing device while the capacity of a cartridge containing a developing agent is secured and to make the developing agent efficiently agitatable, by providing at least two agitators whose rotating phases are made different from each other in the cartridge. CONSTITUTION:In a cartridge 11 which is thin in thickness and long in length L in the forward and backward directions, two agitators 12 and 13 are provided, while keeping the rotating phases different from each other. while the height H' of the cartridge 11 is made shorter, the length L in the forward and backward directions is set longer, and thus, a sufficient volumetric capacity is secured even this thin type cartridge is used. On the other hand, a developing agent 2 is contained in the cartridge 11 in such a way that the thickness of the layer of the developing agent 2 is thin but its surface area is wide. But, since the plural agitators 12 and 13 are provided in the cartridge 11, the developing agent 2 contained in this cartridge 11 is sufficiently agitated and, in addition, smoothly fed to a developing roller 4.
