Process for treating effluents contaminated with light substances, in particular saponifiable oils or fats

A novel process for treating effluents contaminated with light substances, in particular saponifiable oils and fats, is described. In order to reduce the residual pollution, it is proposed to pass the effluent through a filter consisting of reticulated polyurethane foam. The dispersed and emulsified particles are retained on this filter. On backwashing of the filter, which can be assisted by air, heat is used for liquefying the particles.
