PURPOSE:To easily set optimum color separation condition by displaying a color separation signal from a color scanner onto a color monitor and storing it onto a storage medium so as to confirm a final printed matter on the monitor screen. CONSTITUTION:A simulator 2 is connected to a color scanner and a color separation signal outputted therefrom is inputted. The received color separation signal is stored tentatively in a memory unit 10. The picture data for each color component read from a memory unit 10 is fed to mixers 16a-16d in a composition unit 16 for each color. The output of the mixers 16a-16d is fed to a color monitor 28 via a D/A conversion unit 20, a process unit 22, a matrix unit 24, and a monitor unit 26. An external storage device 4 has a CPU unit 32, a CRT controller unit 34, a hard disk unit 36, a keyboard 38 and a disk control unit 40.
