PURPOSE:To excellently detect the angle of rotation by simple processing by using peripheral features. CONSTITUTION:Peripheral features from two edges which are considered to cross the line direction of a binary-coded (clock 1) input document image at right angles are extracted (block 2L and 2R) from the input document image and differentiated (blocks 3L and 3R), and the mean value (block 5) of the positive value and negative value of the differentiated value is compared (block 6) to decide the rotational direction of the input document image. Further, change points of the peripheral features are extracted (blocks 7L and 7R) according to the discriminated rotational direction and used to detect (block 8) the angle of rotation of the input document image. Thus, the peripheral features area used to detect the angle of rotation excellently by the simple processing.
