PURPOSE:To provide the titled catalyst capable of producing, especially in the gaseous phase polymerization, spherical polymers outstanding in granular size distribution and bulk density, prepared from an organometallic compound, particulate carrier, aluminoxane, compound of group IV B transition metal in the periodic table and olefin polymer. CONSTITUTION:The objective catalyst prepared from (A) an organometallic compound (e.g., trialkylaluminum, isoprenylaluminum), (B) particulate carrier (pref., SiO2 or MgO with an average particle size of 10-200mum, treated with said compound A) (C) aluminoxane [e.g., a compound of formula I (R is 1-20C- hydrocarbon m is 2-50) or II], (D) a compound of group IV B transition metal in the periodic table [e.g., bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconium monochloride monohydride], and (E) an olefin polymer formed by prepolymerization. Using this catalyst, an olefin polymerization can be performed with excellent polymerization activity even reduced amount of said aluminoxane to be used.
