PURPOSE:To use a magnetic disk device even when a medium trouble occurs by providing an exchanging circuit to be able to switch the correspondence of a physical head address and a logical head address. CONSTITUTION:When in the area where a cylinder address is '0', a medium trouble exists as the part where a head address is '0', and the medium trouble does not exist at the part where other head address is '4', head addresses '0' and '4' are switched by a head address converting circuit 2. Consequently, logically, at the part where the head address is '0', the medium trouble does not exist, at the part where the head address is '4', the medium trouble exists, and the medium trouble can be evacuated from the system area where the cylinder address is '0' and the head address is '0'. Thus, the medium trouble can be evacuated from the system area and the device can be used as the magnetic disk device without the medium trouble at the system area.
