PURPOSE:To prevent the joint of a transfer belt from erroneously detected as a pattern and to reduce the chromatic aberration by not extracting the pattern for measuring the chromatic aberration simultaneously detected by plural sensors as a detection pattern. CONSTITUTION:Images for pattern for measuring the chromatic aberration 28BK, C, M and Y sequentially pass a sensor 27L to be detected as the transfer belt moves. The images for pattern 28BK, C, M and Y are formed in a part corresponding to a sensor 27R in the next transfer paper and detected by the sensor 27R in the same way. By detecting the exclusive OR of outputs from the sensors 27L and 27R, the erroneous detection of the joint of the transfer belt can be prevented and the chromatic aberration can be reduced.
