PURPOSE:To improve runnability and wear resistance by using ceramics essentially consisting of zirconium oxide to form a protective film of a thin film magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:At least the protective plate 6 of the thin film magnetic head 10 constituted by joining the protective plate 6 to the substrate 1 formed with a thin film magnetic head 10 is formed of the ceramics essentially consisting of the zirconium oxide. The ceramics essentially consisting of the zirconium oxide has so-called voids at a smaller ratio and exhibits a low coefft. of friction even to a metal tape. Dealing with high-density recording including a traveling property is enabled if the protective plate is formed of such ceramics. |
