PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance and fatigue strength of a built-up zone by welding soft materials to a material to be built-up in advance and then, performing the build-up welding by combining the wear resistant materials with the soft materials thereon. CONSTITUTION:The soft materials 2 such as inconel, austenitic stainless steel, etc., with the abundant ductility is subjected to the underlaying welding to the material 1 to be built-up made of carbon steel, etc., in advances. Next, the wear resistant materials 3 and the soft materials 2 are mingled together at proper intervals thereon and both are combined to perform the welding. Since the soft materials 2 are underlaid in advance, the stress can be absorbed with respect to the working stress of the martensite transformation. Moreover, the martensite transformation does not take place on a welded zone of the soft material 2, the wear resistant materials are prevented from cracking 4. By this method, the fatigue failure of the zone to be built-up is also prevented. Accordingly, both the wear resistance and fatigue strength of the built-up zone are improved.
