PURPOSE:To adhere and fit a pipe to the inner or outer surface of a base material and to obtain a composite member excellent in quality by outer fitting or inner fitting the metallic pipe loosely to a solid body or a hollow body having at least one open end of a base material, then by reducing or expanding the diameter of the pipe. CONSTITUTION:The metallic pipe 2 is fitted loosely on the outer periphery of the base material 1. Next, the base material 1 and the pipe 2 are connected at both prescribed part by welding, etc., then, the base material 1 and the pipe 2 are laid laterally and while rotating integrally are pressed by a small roller 3. Then, the pipe 2 is locally plastic deformed and its diameter is reduced through the thermal contraction of the frictional heating, to make the pipe 2 adhering or closing to the base material 1. Or, the pipe 2 is inserted into the hollow part of the base material 1, locally pressed while rotating on its own axis making the longitudinal axis of the pipe 2 as the center, the pipe 2 is formed to a shape along the inner wall of the hollow part of the base material 1, and the pipe is put into the state of adhering or closing to the base pipe 1. Further, even though the material having ununiform outer diameter is made the composite member also by the same way mentioned above.
