The subject of the invention is wooden structures which can be delivered as detached parts, particularly furniture or frameworks and methods for constructing the latter. A wooden structure according to the invention includes straight or curved elongate wooden pieces which work in bending and which are connected in pairs by crosspieces 5. Each elongate piece is composed of at least two layers 4a, 4b which are applied against each other by keys 9 which interact with bolts 10 which are screwed into metal pieces 12 inserted in the crosspieces. Each layer 4a, 4b is composed of elementary sections which are pressed end to end against each other, the joints 6 between sections of two layers being offset. Prestress cables 11 pass through the crosspieces 5 making it possible to keep the elongate pieces in compression. One application is the construction of furniture or frameworks which can be delivered as detached parts. <IMAGE>
