PURPOSE:To enable a lengthy work piece to be machined by controlling a driving means so as not to cause relative velocity with a travelling velocity detecting means provided on respective two headstocks that are installed in a position opposing each other and are movable in a Z axis direction. CONSTITUTION:In order to machine a lengthy work piece 17, a tool 16 of tool slides 13, 15 are to be opposing each other with both ends of the work piece 17 supported with chucks 3b, 5b of headstocks 3, 5 opposing each other on a guidance surface 2a of a body. A main spindle control portion 26b, driving drive motors 7, 9 through control portions 23a, 23b, moves both headstocks 3, 5 toward the same direction, A or B, by drive screws 10, 11 but the travelling velocity of the respective headstocks 3, 5 is detected by rotary encoders 21, 25 and angle of rotation velocity quantity detecting portions 22a, 22b, and an angle of rotation velocity quantity comparison portion 26a outputs control signals C1, C2, that count the travelling velocity quantity difference of both headstocks 3, 5 as zero, to the control portions 23a, 23b to control the rotations of the drive motors 7, 9. A lengthy work piece can be machined in such manner.
