PURPOSE:To enhance an oxidation resistance at a high temperature by covering at least one side of a frame made of a stainless steel having a specific composition with an alumina which carries a catalyst, and forming the carrier for catalytic converter. CONSTITUTION:At least one side of the frame consisting of the stainless steel foil is covered with the alumina which carries the catalyst to form the carrier for catalytic converter. The above-mentioned stain steel has a composition consisting of a 3-25wt.% (hereinafter simply %) Cr, a <=0.08% C, a 1.0-5.0% Al, a <=0.5% Ti, a <=0.8% Mn, a <=0.8% Si, and an Fe and impurity as the balance. The surface of the stainless steel is plated with Al, an alpha-Al2O3 whiskers is formed on the Al plating layer by a heat treatment simultaneously with the plating or after the plating, and then a gamma-Al2O3 is coated to form the alumina carrier.
