PURPOSE:To obtain a dispersion having excellent stability in blending with a resin emulsion and improved flame retardance and weather resistance, by dispersing antimony trioxide prepared by coating particle surfaces with colloidal particles of antimony pentoxide in water. CONSTITUTION:Antimony trioxide powder is mixed and reacted with an acidic aqueous sol of antimony pentoxide to coat the surface of the powder with colloidal particles of the antimony pentoxide in an amount of >=5wt.% (preferably 7-30wt.%) based on the antimony trioxide. The above-mentioned coated particles are dispersed in water in 20-80wt.% concentration and, as necessary, the pH of the afore-mentioned dispersion is adjusted to 7-10 with a basic substance to afford the aimed dispersion.
