PURPOSE:To attain the tracking servo without decreasing the storage capacity of a read/write region by writing a servo signal into an erasing region on a magnetic memory medium. CONSTITUTION:A servo head 3 to share an erasing signal and a servo signal is provided, and at the time of initializing or writing a magnetic memory medium 1, the medium is written by the servo signal current having a special frequency to the servo head 3 with a servo signal read/write circuit 7. The servo signal written on the erasing region of the magnetic memory medium 1, namely, a servo signal region 10 is read and by a tracking servo circuit 8 to a receive the servo signal, a signal for a correct positioning is given to a stepping motor 6. Thus, since the servo signal is written to the erasing region on the magnetic memory medium, the data storage capacity at a read/write data region is enlarged and the tracking servo can be loaded by the servo signal of the erasing area.
