PURPOSE:To execute parallel optical computation with simple constitution by assigning the constitution of output terminals, light guides, optical switches and output terminals to input light signals of (n) bits and (m) bits which both are parallel. CONSTITUTION:Light signal inputs 12-0-12-2 of multiplicant are branched respectively to three light guides 12-0-1-12-2-3 according to light signal inputs 13-0-13-2 of multiplier in the example, shown in the figure, of 3 bits for both the multiplicand and the multiplier. The optical switches 14 are provided to the respective guides on the multiplicand side. The light past the optical switch 14 corresponding to the i-th place on the multiplicand and the j-th place on the multiplier side is guided to the output terminal 15 corresponding to i+j-1. All the products of the respective digits of the multiplicand and the multiplier are thereby computed. The addition by each digit is executed in the form of the quantity of light by coupling of the light guides to each other and, therefore, the result of the multiplication is obtd. as the light signal of the quantity of the light of the mixed-binary value from the output terminal 15. The parallel optical computation is thus executed with the simple constitution.
