NEGATIVE PLATE FOR SEALED LEAD-ACID BATTERY

PURPOSE:To increase large current overcharge performance by using a negative plate made of fine hollow fibers. CONSTITUTION:A negative plate 11 is formed by filling powdery lead active materials 13 in a web intertwined with fine hollow glass fibers 12. The fiber 12 has a diameter of about 10mum and a hollow having a diameter of 1-5mum in its axis direction. The active material 13 has a particle size of about 10mum and its surface is wetted with electrolyte to form a liquid film 13a. By using the negative plate 11 in a sealed lead-acid battery, oxygen gas evolved from a positive electrode by overcharge is absorbed on the surface of the negative plate 11 and on the inside through the hollow 12a. The absorption of oxygen gas in the negative plate is therefore increased. Large current overcharge performance can be increased.
