The invention relates to a device making it possible to vary the cooling air current 7 in cooling towers. It consists of a few lateral orifices 1 in the structure of the stack 6 immediately above the level of the hot-water spray bars 2 and exchange bodies 3. These orifices 1, provided with remotely adjustable variable closing devices 8, allow an admission of fresh air 5 which lessens the local reduced pressure and cools the rising hot-air current 7, thereby lessening its significance. The device according to the invention is particularly intended for preventing the internal structures 2, 3, 4 of cooling towers from freezing. <IMAGE>
