PURPOSE:To easily detect the inclination of electronic equipment, etc., at low cost by providing a separation belt which slants in the moving direction of reflected light when the inclination of the body to be detected in varied on the light receiving surface of a light receiving element chip. CONSTITUTION:The separation belt 9 which slants in the moving direction of the reflected light when the inclination of the body 8 to be detected is varied is provided on the light receiving surface of the light receiving element chip 2. Then detection output terminals 5, 5, and 5' for outputting detection outputs independently according to the quantities of light reception on the light receiving surfaces divided into two by the separation belt 9 are provided. An arithmetic circuit which outputs the sum of and difference between the detection outputs is connected to those terminals 5, 5 and 5'. Consequently, the difference output of the arithmetic circuit is zero when the body 8 to be detected is at a reference position (b) and varies linearly at (a) and (b) before and after that according to the inclination theta of the body 8 to be detected. The inclination theta of the body 8 to be detected is therefore easily detected, so the inclination of electronic equipment, etc., is easily detected at low cost.
