PURPOSE:To dispense with a microswitch, by interrupting the connecting state of a resistance member for protecting a motor driving circuit, mechanically with a moving body, at the time of the runaway of the moving body. CONSTITUTION:When reading an image, first, a sensor carriage 14 is stopped at a position where a read-starting position sensor 21 is turned on. After that, by a motor 18, the sensor carriage 14 is moved in the direction of a read- completing position, the image is scanned, and at a position where a read- completing position sensor 22 is turned on by the sensor carriage 14, the motor 18 is stopped. When an overload is loaded on the motor 18, then excess current to the motor 18 is suppressing by a resistor 24. In the case of the runaway of the sensor carriage 14 without stopping at the position of the read-completing position sensor 22, a projecting section 23 set on the sensor carriage 14 is struck against the resistor 24, and the resistor 24 is removed from a holder 25, and a motor driving circuit 201 is interrupted.
