PURPOSE:To rapidly recognize an actual scale observing the display of a picture by displaying an actual distance scale corresponding to the contraction scale factor of a display picture simultaneously at the time of picture-displaying a graphic on a display device. CONSTITUTION:Drawing data designated by using a mouse 207 out of the drawing data stored in a file device 203 is retrieved by a CPU 201, and is stored in a main memory 202 transiently. And the drawing data on the main memory 202 is edited suitably for the display area of a CRT 205 by the CPU 201, and after that, it is displayed on the CRT 205. At this time, by designating both ends of a coordinate in an arbitrary rectangular area from a CRT display area by using the mouse 207, the contraction scale factor of the drawing for the display area can be found, and the above stated drawing data is magnified and reduced by the contraction scale factor, and is displayed, and also, the actual distance scale corresponding to the above stated contraction scale factor is displayed simultaneously.
