PURPOSE:To prevent the increase in the quantity of oblique movement by arranging plural original tip detection switches in a parallel line with a roller shaft just before a reading roller and driving the read roller when all the original tip detection switches detect the tip of the original. CONSTITUTION:The read roller is stopped till the tip of the carried original 1 contacts the contact part 14 between the read roller and an image sensor 8 over the entire width. If the fed original 1 obliques already at paper feeding and even if the left end of the tip of the supplied original 1 is in press contact with the read roller 7, paper is carried by the paper feed roller 3, then the read roller contact side 1a of the supplied original is deflected larger than the other side 1b and the tip of the supplied original 1 is in contact with the contact part between the read roller 7 and the image sensor 8 over the entire width. In this case, left/right original tip detection switches 12a, 12b detect it that the tips of the supplied original 1 are arranged to drive a motor M thereby driving the read roller 7 via gears G1, G2.
