PURPOSE:To minimize the quantity of tracking errors after completion of retrieval, by providing an overshoot target detector and performing a track jump to the opposite side after overshooting a target position. CONSTITUTION:Information related to the current position of an optical pickup is inputted to an arithmetic and logical device 24 in the unit of time by means of an optical pickup device 16 and signal processor 17 and the error between a target position inputted from an input device 21 and the current position is calculated in the unit of time. The calculated error time is converted into the number of tracks by a track number converting circuit 22. Then a track jump is executed while an actuator driving device 19 and traverse driving device 20 are controlled by the device 24 in accordance with the number of tracks. When the above-mentioned operations are carried out, the overshoot target detector 23 detects the overshooting target position and the jump to the opposite side by means of the device 24 is executed in accordance with the detect signal of the device 23. Therefore, the number of jumps and quantity of tracking errors after a retrieval are reduced. Thus stability in reproduction is improved.
