PURPOSE:To reduce the memory capacity for tooth surface data by storing the tooth grinding data so set as to allow machining of a work gear into the target tooth surface shape classified by the tooth surface conditions of a shaving cutter previously, and by storing the tooth grinding data upon defining on the work gear tooth surface. CONSTITUTION:Classified by the tooth surface conditions (tooth thickness etc.), a plurality of tooth grinding data for a shaving cutter A are set and stored in a tooth grinding data memory 8 so as to allow provided of optimum tooth surface shape for a work gear W previously. When the tooth surface of the cutter A is to be re-ground, the current tooth surface conditions are measured with a tooth surface conditions measuring means 3, and the tooth grinding data close to the current tooth surface condition is read, on the basis whereof the tooth surface of the cutter A is re-ground. As each tooth grinding data in the tooth grinding data memory 8 is defined on the tooth surface of the work gear W, the system of co-ordinates is fixed regardless of the tooth surface condition (tooth thickness) at the time of re-grinding, and accordingly the memory capacity for the tooth grinding data is reduced. |
