PURPOSE:To safely and efficiently produce metal powder in a large amt. by press-feeding the molten metal melted in an isolated and separately provided crucible through a transport pipe provided with a preheating means, and splashing the molten metal to bring the same into collision against the cooling liquid on the inside surface of a rotary drum, thereby quickly cooling and solidifying the molten metal. CONSTITUTION:A rotary drum 2 is vertically and horizontally rotated at a high speed by a motor 13 and the cooling water 1 housed therein is held on the inside surface of the drum by the rotating centrifugal force of the drum 2. The molten metal is splashed and is brought into collision against this cooling water 1 from a molten metal injection nozzle 8, by which the molten metal particles are quickly cooled and solidified and the metal powder is obtd. The above-mentioned nozzle 8 of the above-mentioned quickly cooling and solidifying apparatus for producing the metal powder is provided to one end 9 of the molten metal transport pipe 5 and is inserted into the drum 2 from an upper aperture 2a. On the other hand, the other end 10 of the transport pipe 5 is inserted into the crucible 6 for melting which is provided isolatedly and separately from the drum 2 and is provided with the high-frequency heating coil 7. The molten metal in the above-mentioned crucible 6 is press-fed by the pressure from a pressure medium supply port 11 and is passed through the above-mentioned transport pipe 8 provided with a heating furnace 4 while said pipe is kept preheated. The molten metal is thus supplied to the drum 2.
