PURPOSE:To enable liquid crystal display by disposing polarizing films to both faces of a nematic liquid crystal cell in such a manner that non-voltage parts allow transmission of light and providing an illuminating means behind the cell and a mirror before the same. CONSTITUTION:A nematic liquid crystal layer is disposed between substrates provided with electrodes and light shielding films are provided on the substrates except the parts corresponding to a display pattern. The polarizing axes of the polarizing films 7A, 7B on both faces of the cell are so disposed that light transmits the same through the non-voltage impressed parts. The reflecting mirror 15 and an auxiliary lens 14 are disposed between the liquid crystal cell 11 and a projection face 16. The cell 11 is illuminated through an auxiliary lens 13 by a halogen lamp 12, etc., from behind the cell 11. A projection face 16 is formed as a semi-transparent reflecting face or hologram. The liquid crystal display device which has high contrast and high grade and has no dependency on a visual field angle is thus obtd. |
