PURPOSE:To enable dustproofing of a belt and to facilitate exchange of a belt, by a method wherein a belt for driving a roller pair and a rotation control means are disposed outside a side plate serving to pivotally support a roller pair for auxiliary running conveyance for an object to be scanned. CONSTITUTION:Two sets of rollers 44 and 48 are disposed so as to convey an object to be scanned in a state to nip it therebetween. A housing 62 is provided for covering pulleys 54 and 56, mounted on two sets of roller shafts 52b and 55b for synchronously rotating the roller 44 and 48, and a belt 57, stretched between the pulleys 54 and 56. As a result, since no dust enters and the belt 57 is prevented from damage due to adhesion of the dust between the pulleys 54 and 56 and the belt 57, auxiliary scanning conveyance precision can be kept at a high value. Since the pulleys 54 and 56, the belt 57, and a rotation control means 60 are disposed outside a side plate 53b for pivotally supporting two sets of rollers 44 and 48, exchange of the belt 57 is facilitated.
