In a service water backwash filter having a plurality of filter candles, which are arranged on a hole circle of a rotary disc and are made of edge filter cylinders having approximately V-shaped annular gaps enlarging from the inside towards the outside, which gaps are traversed from the inside to the outside by the advance flow water flowing through an advance flow chamber accommodated in a housing, a rotary disc and the filter candles, while a filtrate serves for backwashing, which filtrate flows in opposite direction through the annular gaps of a filter candle from the filtrate outlet into a back wash pot sealed from the advance flow chamber, according to the invention it is provided that the smallest gap width of the edge filter cylinders of the filter candles is greater than the filter fineness required and that the filter candles are individually or altogether enclosed by one or more outer edge filter cylinders, the annular gaps of which enlarging in a V shape from the inside to the outside correspond at their narrowest position to the filter fineness required, the edge filter cylinders being constructed of spirals of wires having a V-shaped profile and axial wire ridges.
