摘要 Metal article is claimed exhibiting a low hydrogen embrittlement, and consisting of a substrate with a metallic coating having a microstructure characterised by a series of interconnected microscopic evacuation channels for the hydrogen. Also claimed is a process for determining whether an article of metal having a metallic coating shows the desired property of low hydrogen embrittlement, consisting of: (a) preparing a sample in cross section, (b) magnifying the cross section, and (c) determination from the magnified cross section the presence of a series of evacuation channels interconnected to allow removal of the hydrogen. The articles are made from high strength steels. The prior art used to coat the steel structure with expensive Cd-Ti alloy after carefully removing the hydrogen is overcome.
