PURPOSE:To shorten a retrieving time by retrieving a table provided at every specific code at the time of retrieving the word of read description information and collecting common information to the tables at every specific code to one table. CONSTITUTION:The word corresponding to the address of a mail matter or the like carried from the carrying part 7 of a read processor is read in a reading part 3 and the storing means 19 of a memory 5 is retrieved by the control of a CPU 1. The names of the addresses commonly present in respective cities of the address names frequently present in the common word storing means 17 of the memory 5 are stored. In this CPU 1 and the memory part 5, a word area retrieving means 11, an address retrieving means 13 and a recognition means 15 are disposed and the names of prefectures and the names of the cities on the like stored in the storing means 19 and the common addresses stored in a storing means are separately retrieved to shorten the retrieving time.
