PURPOSE:To obtain the titled latex useful as a binder for coated paper, having high bond strength and printability, by partially polymerizing a conjugated diene containing an unsaturated carboxylic acid and a comonomer and subjecting the residual monomers to emulsion polymerization while maintaining instant conversion ratio of the residual monomers in a specific range. CONSTITUTION:In subjecting (A) 20-70wt.% aliphatic conjugated diene monomer, (B) 0.5-10wt.% ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer and (C) 20-79.5wt.% other monomer copolymerizable these monomers to emulsion polymerization, 5-45wt.% whole monomers containing part or whole of the component B are collectively fed and emulsion polymerization is carried out until polymerization conversion ratio reaches 20-90%. Then the residual monomers corresponding to 55-95wt.% whole monomers are continuously or intermittently added, subjected to emulsion polymerization, instant polymerization conversion ratio is always maintained at 20-90wt.% based on the monomers added to the said period throughout a period to completion of addition of the whole monomers and polymerization conversion ratio of the whole monomers at the end of the addition is 50-90% to give the aimed latex.
