The enzyme on the solid residue is subjected to further hydrolysis with new substrate and the prod. is sepd. Alternatively the residue from the first step may be diluted with water and undergo a second hydrolysis prior to the addn. of more substrate. The substrate is partic. wood, straw, bagasse, or other farm waste.
