In an arresting apparatus for workpieces or workpiece carriers on conveyor belts of assembly or manufacturing lines, in order to achieve a compact construction, the housing (10) is of a two-part design and there is provided, in the first housing part (11), a pressure medium cylinder (13) and a connection bore (37) to a working space (24), which is bounded, in the pressure medium cylinder (13), by a working piston (14) displaceable therein, which connection bore opens into the separating plane (21) of the housing (10). The second housing part (12) bears, at the side, a pressure medium connection (35) and, at the end, a pressure medium valve (26) for pressure medium supply to the working space (24). It furthermore contains two connecting bores (30, 31) which connect the valve connections (28, 29) to the pressure medium connection (35) and the connection bore (37). <IMAGE>
