NEW MATERIAL:A pyrimidine derivative shown by formula I [R is lower alkyl or R'S(O)n- (R' is lower alkyl; n is 0-2); Z is H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, lower alkoxy, trifluoromethyl or nitro; n is 0-3 and when n is 2 or 3, Z may be different kind; X is halogen or lower alkoxy]. EXAMPLE:4-Anilino-6-chloro-2-methylthio-5-trifluoromethylpyrimidine. USE:Useful as agricultural and horticultural fungicide, showing high controlling effects on gray mold, powdery mildew and Tetranychidae by foliar treatment, effective against chemical-resistant fungi, acarides and mosquitoes and having no phytotoxicity to plants. PREPARATION:For example, a compound shown by formula II (R is lower alkyl or R'S-) is reacted with a compound shown by formula III to give a compound shown by formula I.
