PURPOSE:To purify an organic nonlinear optical material of high sensitivity to heat deterioration and a high dipole moment by using convection caused by partial heating of the aqueous solution. CONSTITUTION:A hydrogen-bonded organic nonlinear optical material such as 2-methyl-4-nitroaniline, urea or methyl (2,4-dinitrophenyl)-aminopropanoate is recrystallized twice from ethanol. The sample 5 is charged from the inlet 2 into the pyrex glass tube 7 and partial heating is effected with the heaters 3, 4, as a solvent or water is introduced from the inlet 1. Thus, convection takes place in the solution and the sample can be purified by preventing the undissolved and fine sample powder from coming into the purified sample. The product obtained by the process forms no blackened products in the vapor- phase growth operation and the polycrystal product keeps pale yellow. |
