In typewriters and other business machines comprising mechanical drives which are driven by means of electric motors and cannot be influenced manually, a state marker is stored in a part of a RAM adapted to preserve values for distinguishing the operating state of the motor immediately prior to switching off. The state marker is interrogated after switching on to establish whether or not a starting routine is necessary and the starting routine is suppressed if it is not needed. The invention can be applied to motors (in a typewriter) for ribbon lift and feed, type wheel and carriage, and paper carrier. |
