NEW MATERIAL:A piperazine compound expressed by formula I {Ar is aryl or heteroaryl; A is alkylene; Z is -O- or -NR- [R is H, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, acyl, formula II (R<1> and R<2> is H, alkyl, aralkyl, or heterocyclic ring of 5-7 members formed together with adjacent N; B is alkylene) or formula III (R<3> is H, alkyl, alkenyl or aryl)]} or acid addition salt thereof pharmaceutically permissible. EXAMPLE:5-[4-[4-[4-( 3-Trifluoromethylphenyl )piperazine-1-yl]butyl]phenyl]pyr rolidine-2-one. USE:An antipsychotic having reduced extrapyramidal side effect. PREPARATION:For example, a compound expressed by formula IV (W is O or NOH) is subjected to reduction and ring closure reaction to provide the compound expressed by formula I (Z is -O- or -NH-).
